Vape Juice Nicotine Levels – Which is Best For You?

If you’re a new vape user, you may be confused by vaping nicotine levels. If you were a previous traditional cigarette smoker, you may have never put much thought into how much nicotine you were actually consuming. But now that you’ve found a vape juice that tastes and smells fantastic, you need to select the nicotine level that it’s going to contain. The nicotine level is what is referred to when asked, “what you would like the strength of your vape juice to be?” We’re going to take a look at the best vape juice nicotine levels for you and if your vape juice has to contain nicotine at all.

What Are Your Vaping Goals?

When selecting your nicotine level, the first thing that needs to be taken into consideration are your vaping goals. If you’re a previous non smoker and aren’t trying to get yourself hooked on nicotine, there is really not much of a need to purchase a vape juice that contains nicotine at all. If you’re trying to wean yourself off of traditional cigarettes, then purchasing a vape juice containing a certain level of nicotine will most likely be the way to go.

Dray Moorman of Migvapor.com tells us why you must take your vaping goals into consideration when choosing your vape juice nicotine levels:

“If you’re trying vaping without any prior smoking experience and you don’t want to become dependent on nicotine, you will want to find e-juice that contains 0mg/mL of nicotine. If you’re wanting to switch from cigarettes to vaping as a healthy alternative, but want to keep your nicotine consumption the same, then you can refer to the information below to find the right concentration level for you. If you are wanting to reduce your nicotine consumption and smoking habit to eventually quit, then you can start with a nicotine level you are used to until you are comfortable with your vaporizer, and then slowly decrease the concentration over time. It will take time to reduce your nicotine intake to 0, so give it one to two months every time you decrease your concentration before doing so again.”

Which Nicotine Level Should I Go For?

If you are a previous cigarette smoker but are confused about what exact level of nicotine you should go for, there are guides available to help you break it down. Levels of nicotine in e-juice range from 0 mg/ml to 24 mg/ml, suiting non cigarette users to heavy smokers that are trying to make the transition.

Black Note gives an exact breakdown of each vape juice nicotine level and who exactly it’s meant for in their guide, “Choosing the Right E-Liquid Nicotine Levels”:

24 mg/ml: This is generally recommended for heavier smokers, of more than a pack a day. However, the study above shows that if you do want a solid hit of nicotine to help you make the switch, it’s worth considering for even pack-a-day smokers. Research has suggested that vapers who start with over 20 mg/ml are more likely to quit smoking.

18 mg/ml: While the above is true, there’s good reason this is usually recommended. It gives a nice dose of nicotine, but crucially, it’s not as harsh as 24 mg/ml. If you’re roughly a pack-a-day smoker, this is the ideal level for a first vape, then if you find you don’t get enough nicotine, bump up to 24 mg/ml.

12 mg/ml: If you’ve vaped for a while or were only an occasional or light smoker, 12 mg/ml is an ideal nicotine level. Most smokers won’t get enough nicotine if they start here, though.

6 mg/ml: This is really intended for those gradually reducing their nicotine consumption – a stop off on the way to becoming nicotine-free.

0 mg/ml: No nicotine! Why would someone vape this? Part of the appeal of e-cigarettes is the hand-to-mouth action, the visible vapor exhalation and the whole ritual of nicotine consumption. This is for when the behavioral side of things is all you’re vaping for.”

The Device You Choose Matters

Did you know that the device you choose does matter when monitoring your nicotine levels? This is due to the fact that some vape methods allow more nicotine to get through to your lungs, while others will prevent the same amount from passing through.

Ruthless Vapor explains why the device you choose matters when monitoring your nicotine levels:

“With the innovations in vaping, vaping devices have become more efficient in delivering nicotine and flavor. The most common devices you see today are called sub-ohm devices. Sub-ohm devices use high wattage batteries to increase vapor production and it allows for more direct to lung vapor action. What this means is that you will get more nicotine compared to lower wattage devices which are mouth to lung devices.”
